How Wayfinder works / Technology & memory
A role with purpose.
A story with continuity.
A capable model. A considered coaching role. Your story, carried forward. Each does a different job.
We call the coach assembled for your conversation an IB—Instantaneous Being. It brings an approach and relevant history into the moment, in your service. It is software, not a person or a conscious being.
Three parts.
One conversation.
- The actor
- The language model
The model performs the conversation: making sense of language, asking a question and composing a response. It can change as the service evolves. It is not, on its own, the whole coach.
- The role
- Wayfinder’s coaching approach
The hero’s journey gives the conversation a frame: what matters, what is changing, the people involved and a next step you choose. The role asks for curiosity and attention to other people—not a performance of having all the answers.
- Your story
- Retained words and working understanding
Conversation records and an organized account of your journey provide context. Your words are evidence; a summary or interpretation is something to question and refine. Neither a model nor a story map gets the final word on who you are.
Keeping words. Making sense of them.
A record of what you said and an understanding of what it means are different things. The story writer brings together relevant conversations, facts and journey elements into a working account of where you have been and what matters now.
That structure gives the next conversation something to return to. It is not a promise that every word is loaded into every response, that every detail will be recalled, or that an interpretation is correct.
You can ask: “What are you basing that on?” Or say: “That happened, but that isn’t what it meant to me.”
A new actor need not mean a new beginning.
Keeping the coaching role and retained history separate from a particular model supports continuity when the model changes. The aim is to improve the performance without rebuilding your story from a blank chat.
Fidelity means staying grounded in your words and the agreed approach—not repeating the same answer forever. New information can change the understanding. Model changes can change a response, too; continuity is a design aim, not a guarantee of identical behavior or an automatic upgrade promise.
The useful part happens in your life.
A conversation can help you notice a pattern, consider someone else’s point of view or choose a small action. The next conversation can return to what actually happened—not just to what sounded good in the moment.
A next step might be listening, asking for help, setting a boundary or pausing. The purpose is not to keep you talking to software. Your judgment, relationships and choices stay yours.
Know what you are sharing.
The seven-element journey map is a reflective framework, not a diagnosis. Coaching is not therapy, emergency support or a replacement for professional advice.
Before sharing sensitive information, ask about the service’s current retention, export, deletion and processing arrangements. Available channels, minutes and scheduling depend on your account and plan.
The original explanation.

The Technology
The Wayfinder, the Story Writer, and Harmonic Narratives
This document is a companion to How I Got Here. It explains the technological architecture that delivers the Harmonic Way at scale.
AI as magnifier.
I see AI as a magnifier. It magnifies my ability to help people get on their Hero's Journey — to find meaning and happiness by filling their heads with others' dreams and hopes. Because when you become somebody who helps others achieve their dreams, you get an entirely different reaction.
The Harmonic Way gives everybody a coach for much less than a human coach has to charge just to eat. A human coach can only talk to so many people a week. AI is the magnifier that changes that equation.
The story writer.
That's why the Harmonic Way has a story writer built into it — something that tries to write your story and tell it back to you. We pull together the conversations, the facts, the information, through a layered memory system: working memory, transcripts, derived understandings of where you are against the Seven Elements and other assessments, and a graph memory designed to clarify the temporal arc — who you were, who you are, where you're going.
It all gets pulled together and a story gets written about you.
That's the first basic working version. The larger objective is harmonic narratives — the system leading you forward through your own story, not just reflecting it back.
The caveat.
Seems like a good idea. Although I could be living in my imagination.
I remain committed to being a harvester.
