Hero Mom: Colombian Mother Catches Son Falling from Fourth Floor
Lightning-fast reflexes on a Medellin balcony saved a child from a four-story fall
Waiting Outside an Office
On June 19, 2019, a mother and her young son waited outside the Monserrate construction offices in the Laureles Colonial building in Medellin, Colombia. CCTV cameras would capture what happened next.
A Curious Child
The little boy wandered toward the balcony railing on the fourth floor. He reached out, expecting to touch glass panels between the railings—standard safety features in most buildings.
The Fall
But there was no glass. The child collapsed to his knees and fell head-first through the gap in the railing, plummeting toward a four-story drop that would almost certainly have been fatal.
Split-Second Response
The mother had only momentarily glanced at her phone. The instant her son fell through the railing, she looked up and lunged forward without hesitation.
The Catch
She grabbed her son's leg just as he was falling, catching him by the ankle as he dangled four stories above the ground. With all her strength, she pulled him back through the railing to safety on the balcony.
Incredible Control
Remarkably, the mother maintained such control during the rescue that she never even dropped her phone.
Others Rush to Help
Office workers and a delivery man rushed to assist, but the mother had already saved her son through her lightning-fast reflexes.
A Safety Failure
The incident raised serious questions about building safety. The railing gap should have been protected by glass panels to prevent exactly this type of accident. Many who saw the viral video noted this was "a lawsuit waiting to happen."
Perfect Outcome
Thanks to his mother's incredible reflexes and instant response, the boy was completely unharmed—saved from what would have been a fatal fall.
